Changing Health Centre and freedom of choice inside the Wellbeing Services County of Ostrobothnia
The extended freedom of choice will enter into force in the Wellbeing Services County of Ostrobothnia starting from 1 September 2025. In addition to changing the health centre, the freedom of choice will also extend to oral health care as well as maternity and child health clinic units. The client does not need to choose the units for the treatment of chronic diseases, maternity and child health clinics, and oral health care from the same social and health centre.
A new change can be made no earlier than six months later.
You can complete the notification of changing health centre and freedom of choice digitally in the Citizen’s Health Service. Submitting the digital notification requires strong electronic identification. The form is currently available only in Finnish and Swedish.
Changing Health Centre and freedom of choice outside the Wellbeing Services County of Ostrobothnia
As a customer of public healthcare, you can choose your own primary healthcare treatment location (social welfare and healthcare centre) from anywhere in Finland. Changing the social welfare and healthcare centre requires that you make a written notification to both your current and future social welfare and healthcare centre. A separate notification must be made for each family member.
Responsibility for your treatment will be transferred to the new social welfare and healthcare centre no later than three weeks after the notification has been received. You can change the social welfare and healthcare centre no more than once a year.
