A fourth coronavirus vaccine might be good for you – check if you belong to a vaccination group right now

Coronavirus vaccines are widely available in the Wellbeing Services County of Ostrobothnia. A fourth coronavirus vaccination is now being offered to those over 60 and to adults belonging to risk groups. According to a new recommendation from the Finnish Institute of Health and Welfare (THL), the elderly and those belonging to risk groups will be offered a new booster dose later in the autumn. According to estimates, new booster doses will be given in October at the earliest.

Everyone over the age of 18 is entitled to three coronavirus vaccinations. A fourth coronavirus vaccination is offered to all adults over the age of 60 and those in risk groups. The fourth dose can also be taken by those over 12 years old, whose immunity is severely compromised.

A contracted coronavirus infection corresponds to one vaccine dose. You can still get a coronavirus infection even if you have already had it once before. However, vaccination provides good protection against infection and especially against serious forms of the disease.

– You should protect yourself from the coronavirus by taking the recommended doses, 2 or 3 vaccines. In this way, it is most likely that a serious form of the disease can be avoided, says Chief Medical Officer Peter Nieminen.

A coronavirus vaccination can be booked via the online appointment booking system or by telephone. Vaccination times are now very available for all doses, including the first ones. You can take a first dose even if you have had the disease once or twice.

Recommendation that doses be taken in combination with influenza vaccinations during the coming autumn

The Finnish Institute of Health and Welfare (THL) recommends a new booster vaccination for everyone over the age of 65, people over the age of 18 who belong to medical risk groups, and those over the age of 12 who are severely immunocompromised. According to estimates, this recommendation will be available in October at the earliest.

– If you have previously received the recommended vaccination doses, then it is safe to wait for this new booster dose later in the autumn, assures Nieminen.

As far as possible, the new booster doses will be given in combination with this year’s influenza vaccinations. Influenza vaccines have not yet arrived in the wellbeing services county.

Seasonal influenza vaccinations will be announced on the channels of the wellbeing services county later in the autumn.
