Delivery room
The delivery room functions as an emergency unit and takes care of both women giving birth and pregnant emergency patients from 20 pregnancy weeks onwards. The delivery room is located in B4, on the fourth floor of the main building of Vaasa Central Hospital. When you come to the floor, please ring the doorbell. At nights, 20:00 – 06:30, when the front door is closed, please ring the doorbell outside the main entrance.
Midwives, obstetricians, paediatricians, anaesthetists and hospital attendants are available around the clock. The unit has five delivery rooms, two observation rooms as well as a sauna- and bathing facility. Every year about 1200 babies are born at Vaasa Central Hospital.
A child’s birth is always a major event in a family. We always aim to provide you with high standard individualised treatment and you are always welcome to discuss your wishes related to the birth with the midwife. If there is anything you remain unsure about, you are always welcome to contact the delivery unit even after you have been discharged.
The prenatal class is meant for you who are expecting your first child. The best time to attend the class is from pregnancy week 32 onwards. The class is held by a midwife working on the delivery ward. The class provides information about the different stages of labour and you practise breathing- and relaxation exercises.
Please register for the class through the links below. The programme will inform you if the class is fully booked. Please note that you will not receive a confirmation message after registering – so keep track of the date you have registered for.
If you have registered but are unable to attend, we would appreciate it if you notify us before the class is held by sending an e-mail to synnytys@ovph.fi. If you have any other questions regarding the prenatal classes you can contact us through the email address above.
The class is held from 14:00-16:30 at Vaasa Central Hospital. We meet inside the main entrance (Building A). Prenatal classes at the hospital are held in small groups and also include a tour to the delivery unit. Please, note that you cannot attend the class if you have flu symptoms.
